FCA Pages for Fluent Community v1.0.2

Hi all - just wanted to share a very early version of a new plugin, Pages for Fluent Community.

What does this do?
Right now in Fluent Community you can either create a "space" or a "course". This plugin will now allow you to create a "page".

What is a "page"?
A Page in this context is a custom built static page designed to display information to your community members. It could be group rules, terms and conditions, how-to pages, about us, user dashboard etc each page will be designed specifically to be a part of your Fluent Community.

Will it pull in my Wordpress pages?
No, this is not "theme compatibility" and is not designed to wrap your existing wordpress pages in Fluent Community.

Can I use shortcodes?
No, this is not designed to display non-fluent content. Every shortcode for third party plugins requires its own theme styles and scripts. Fluent Community does not load these in by default and there are far too many plugins to support. You can technically add a shortcode now but you will see very unstyled and non-functioning outputs, so I don't recommend it. I will be working on adding functionality for things like Fluent Forms but no blanket support for shortcodes.

How do I make a page?
Pages are built with the Wordpress editor in the WP admin dashboard under "Custom Pages" (can also be accessed from the front end Page Settings link). I have created a few custom blocks to get started that add the right styles for Fluent buttons, cards, and dynamic lists of our courses, spaces, and custom pages. I will continue to build up custom blocks for use on pages, and would love to hear what sort of content you would like here.

Other information
These pages follow the same URL structure as the rest of the community so will typically live on /portal/page/page-slug
If you use the custom blocks to add content these pages will look seamless and work with dark mode etc
By default your pages will be added to a custom menu item, this can be turned off or edited
For now this does not work with communities that do not use a portal slug - I'm working on fixing this.

FCA Pages for Fluent Community v1.0.2

Kaneisha G.

Great explanation!

Pablo Miatello

Great contribution. IΒ΄m useing and is very good idea! Thanks Ross FCAΒ

Thomas Oates

Great work Ross FCA!! Not to take away from what you've built, but I think this should be a basic feature inside Fluent Community by the addition of a third space type (page). I could be wrong but I think it would be relatively easy for FC to add this type of functionality into the core product. Shahjahan Jewel??

Ross FCA

Thomas OatesΒ It would be much easier for them than it was for me! I definitely see this being a core feature in the future, but I need it now personally and know others do too.

Love this, Ross FCAΒ !

This is an amazing feature. Good job! The big advtange of this with regards to the theme compatibility wpmanageninja are working on is that it loads the page super fast and does not reload the page, but continues the SPA feeling.

Ross FCA

Assaf Manor Thanks Assaf ☺️ that's the idea. To keep the SPA intact and layouts and styles consistent whilst letting you add fully custom pages.

Theme Compatibility or custom themes work well when you need your wordpress pages or integration with 3rd party apps. Lots of users just want to build a basic page that works seamlessly so hopefully this fits that need.

Would love to see what people build with it.

Assaf Manor

Ross FCAΒ One of the main things I'll need Theme Compatibility is to incorporate My Account page and LearnDash courses inside the layout of FC. But it recon this won't work with this addon as I couldn't use shortcodes such as learndash's to load the courses.

Thanks Ross, glad to see others are linking this feature :)

This is amazing. Thanks so much Ross FCAΒ for your contributions to this community.

One question: I use Thrive Architect to build my pages. Unfortunately, TA is not recognizing the FCA pages. When I try opening them in TA, it just hangs on loading it. In the browser console I see this error message: ERR_ABORTED 404 (Not Found).

Do you have an idea how I could solve this issue?

Thank you in advance!

Jeff Mapes

Thanks Ross FCAΒ ! I was trying to figure this out months ago, but just gave up. This sounds amazing!

Bryan William

Why is this plugin not updated ever since version 1.0.2?

Ross FCA

Bryan WilliamΒ mostly because it's getting a complete overhaul as a Custom Post Type add-on. Will allow you to create /anything/ rather than just /page/. It's on my overall roadmap but I've got 15+ other add-ons that have taken priority since. Got big plans for pages though :)

Bryan William

Ross FCAΒ Thanks for the swift response, you are doing an amazing job, I'm already testing your add-ons
