Decentralized Interconnection of Multiple FluentCommunity Communities

Cuong Thach

ActivityPub is a great idea for decentralized networks, but in reality, it’s stillΒ farΒ fromΒ perfect.

WordPressΒ is constantlyΒ updatingΒ theirΒ own FediverseΒ plugin, butΒ it’sΒ still fullΒ ofΒ bugsΒ andΒ wouldΒ take thousandsΒ ofΒ hoursΒ toΒ getΒ rightβ€”especiallyΒ consideringΒ all theΒ differentΒ platformsΒ involved. EvenΒ thoughΒ theseΒ platformsΒ use theΒ sameΒ protocol, theyΒ allΒ behaveΒ differently whenΒ interactingΒ withΒ each other. ForΒ example, Threads, Bluesky, andΒ othersΒ eachΒ haveΒ theirΒ ownΒ quirks.

RightΒ now, theΒ onlyΒ platformΒ doingΒ ActivityPubΒ reallyΒ wellΒ isΒ GhostΒ CMS. They’veΒ beenΒ working onΒ itΒ forΒ overΒ a year, and it’sΒ stillΒ justΒ in betaβ€”notΒ evenΒ officiallyΒ released yet.Β (TheyΒ startedΒ onΒ MayΒ 10th, 2024.)

So honestly, IΒ don’tΒ expectΒ FluentCommunityΒ to achieve fullΒ ActivityPubΒ supportΒ anytimeΒ soon.

Cuong ThachΒ Personally, for now, it would be enough for me if it were possible to connect multiple FluentCommunity installations to each other, and ActivePub is the music of the future. Maybe there would be some other suitable protocol.

+1 I’m interested in being able to switch between viewing and interacting in multiple FCs.
