🚨Critical Issue: User Ability to Block Members 🚨
Users need the ability to block other users immediately. This is a critical issue and is a basic feature for community safety, and needs to be enabled in every community immediately. Please give ETA on enablement!!! Shahjahan Jewel
We don’t have a follow or friends feature and we don’t have any plan for a feature like that.
Shahjahan Jewel I think he meant the ability to block a user to exclude messages from them and/or their unwanted content specifically for an individual user. For example his ex who also likes Fluent products, but he doesn't want to give her the dog (this is an example).
ЕI tried to write a private message to a user today, it's great! But then I thought, what if he does not want to communicate with me or in the process of conversation he considers me not a good conversationalist, it is necessary to give the possibility of personal blocking without removal from the site.
It’s a useful feature, but calling it essential for the safety of the community is a bit of a stretch. If a user is a threat to the community’s safety, it’s up to the staff to remove them from the community.
Linda Rando it is essential for a user to be able to have immediate recourse to block another user from messaging or seeing their profile, without waiting for staff. There are a number of reasons including, spam, threats, and other reasons why a user must be able to safeguard there profile. Shahjahan Jewel even without adding friends, a user must be able to block unwanted users from being able to access their profile, contact them via message or simply if they do not want to see a users content for some reason.
Tabitha Hawkins I’ve been managing large communities for 15 years, and I stand by my point: it’s a very useful feature, but trying to frame it as essential for community safety is, forgive me, a bit of a stretch.
Linda Rando fortunately I’m not trying to convince you. I’ve been running communities since Ning for 30+ years, and have never seen a community platform without it. It is essential, move on.
Tabitha Hawkins no, it’s extremely annoying to see someone trying to present a useful but absolutely non-essential feature as something vital to the life of the community. Move on.
Tabitha Hawkins Look at the Better Messages plugin. It has a free version and it integrates with FluentCommunity. The settings have an option to allow users to block other users, prevent them from starting a chat, etc.
I totally agree with this, there needs to someway where trolls and anyone who disturbs the peace of a community can be banned and their post history deleted - so there is no remnants of their existence in a community.
Ramy Najmeddine but it’s a different feature than the one Tabitha is requesting: the staff absolutely needs to have all the moderation tools necessary to preserve the peace of the community.
Linda Rando understand - Perhaps consider adding a banned user feature. While we often view communities as harmonious spaces, there are times when it’s necessary to fully ban an individual and remove their past posts.
You can notify the moderators via a built-in function, and then the user can be blocked 🤷♂️
Artur Abakarov no, an individual user can not block another individual user.
Tabitha Hawkins That's not good, its preferable to have the choice to block whomever one needs to block for privacy, a needed feature.
If this is added, it should be a setting that could be turned on and off. I don't want anything like this happening without my knowledge in my community. I think it depends on how and why your community is set up and used.
In one of the communities I'm a part of (not a Fluent Community), users cannot ban each other and if there is an issue it needs to go to through the ethics and review board.
Wendy Shoef totally ageee!
Now can you block a user from sending you a DM?
I don't think I know of any forum-like software that allows to block a user yourself.
I totally support this feature request.
