bell icon click , then click in list

When clicking the bell icon i get a list of new alerts.
When i then click on an item i go to the message and it is highlighted, which is very nice and easy because you can easily see where the message is.

But when i click another alert in the bell dropdownmenu. if it is in the same list nothing happens. I think it would be nice if it switched to that message.

Because i am lazy and do not want to check the title of the message to see if i am on the correct page already.

Edit: Also the message i have read stay visible in the dropdown, would be nice if this could update so the read messages are gone.
