Anonymization (GDPR issue)
Hi there,
I run a community forum based in the EU (Italy) using FluentCommunity Pro, and I recently received a GDPR Article 17 erasure request from a user.
While trying to comply, I realized that FluentCommunity currently lacks some essential GDPR features:
-
No "Anonymize User" function β there's no way to strip a user's personal data (name, email, avatar) while keeping their posts attributed to a generic placeholder like "Deleted User". Discourse, BuddyPress, and most mature forum platforms have had this for years.
-
No integration with WordPress's built-in privacy tools β FluentCommunity doesn't hook into wp_privacy_personal_data_erasers or wp_privacy_personal_data_exporters (available since WP 4.9.6). This means that when an admin uses Tools β Erase Personal Data, FluentCommunity data is completely untouched.
-
No bulk content deletion by user β the only way to remove a user's posts is to delete them one by one from each space. There's no option to delete or reassign all content by a specific user.
-
No global member removal β as noted in your own docs, you can't remove a member from the global member view; you have to do it space by space.
For any community operating in the EU, these aren't nice-to-have features β they're legal requirements. Under GDPR, we must be able to respond to erasure requests within 30 days, and the current workflow makes compliance unnecessarily difficult and error-prone.
I'd love (and need...) to see:
- A one-click "Anonymize User" function (similar to Discourse's implementation)
- Proper integration with WordPress's native privacy eraser hooks
- A bulk action to delete/reassign all of a user's content
- A global member management view with removal options
This is a significant gap that needs to be addressed :-/
Thanks for your time!
I really like the idea of this addition, even for people who are not in the EU, because it should be a basic function for a community

Karl Emil NikkaΒ glad to hear that! Thank you for the link :)

Yes, need this as a member of EU.
