Access Control request to join broken

I've got a space that is Public (I want everybody to be able to see the contents) but have unticked "Allow users to request to Jon this Space" as I don't want them to reply to posts.

However, even with that box unticked, users can still click the Join button and get automatically added.

It works as designed. The request is only for private spaces. If you don't want comments, you can disable comments on the post.

J VΒ No, the request to Join button is for all spaces, and should be disabled if the "allow users to request to Join this Space" is unticked.

J VΒ Besides, members who have been added to that space still need to be able to comment.

Jonathan GwyerΒ I know but the request is only for private spaces. There is a difference between 'to join' and 'to request to join'. Anyone can join a public space and yes they need to do that in order to be able to comment.
You could try to hide the join button for that space with some css, however it is not broken. It is not a bug. It works as designed.

J VΒ No, it's definitely a bug!

The difference between private and public groups is an admin has to approve the request to join a private group. It should still be possible to block people joining a public group.

A public group is "Any member can view posts without joining."

Not "Any member can join."

Otherwise, the tick box to disable joining wouldn't be there when public is selected.

Jonathan GwyerΒ Oops you are right, however I now had time to do a test on it and it works fine on my site. I guess however that I wouldn't use it like that. Maybe that is why my tired head didn't see it yesterday. Sorry.
