Difference between Public and Private space?
Could someone explain the difference between Public and Private spaces?
The descriptions under each of these, to me, are saying nearly the exact same thing...🤔
As it is described on the drop-down list if a Space is Private and the user is not a part of that Space (the user has no Full access to it) then the user has the View Only access to the Space and cannot submit any posts/comments but can only read them. In order to join the Private Space the user needs to be accepted by the Admin.
For Public Spaces user can join at any time without on his own will and any additional approval - Admin don't need to follow any action.
When the user join the Public space the user can read and write posts/comments in the Private Public Space.
Mat . if you ask me, I find this handling wrong as well. Private for me means you can only see it when you are member. There should be an alternative setting and better naming for it.
Maybe it would be better to handle it like:
- Public (everyone can see and join)
- Private (invite only)

Florian, sure. I have just described what is this doing now in the Beta testing phase. If any adjustment are needed then we can share a feedback. So if we expecting to change the description is one option but if we expect to change the behaviour is the other option. I am not against any changes at all. Just tried to explain the current functionality.
Florian, true. It all depandes what we need to achieve. Changing description is piece of cake and if solves the confusion that a quick win fix. It will be similar to Hidden Privacy and the only difference will be that it is visible so users can request the access to join where with hidden you don't request the access in this way.
PS. Instead of Privacy word maybe in this case it is better to use Visibility word etc.

Is there a typo? I do not understand how a user joining a Public space would be able to read/write in a Private space.

I am still finding the drop-down descriptions difficult to make sense of and definitely think they should be reworded.
Here is my suggested wording:
“PUBLIC - Any community member can see all posts and members. Must join before posting and commenting. Can join and leave the space at will (without need for approval).”
PRIVATE - Any community member can see all posts and members. Must join before posting and commenting. Any member may request to join, but request must be accepted by an admin.
HIDDEN - The space is hidden from the menu and fully invisible to community members until they are specifically added to the group by an admin. Once added, users will see the group in the menu and be able to read and create comments and posts (and view all members).”
Regarding functionality, I personally find the existing types a bit unwieldy. Here’s what I would recommend:

GLOBAL [new] - Any community member can view and create posts and comments in the space with no restrictions.
They do not need to “join” or “leave” - all community members are automatically included in global spaces.
The reason for this is that new community members should be included in all main spaces by default and not have to manually “join” them before seeing the content in their feed etc.
They should then be able to select which additional spaces to join and leave at will.

From there, I think spaces should be either PUBLIC and PRIVATE.
PUBLIC spaces can be joined and left at will, without admin approval.
PRIVATE spaces require admin approval.
PRIVATE spaces should also include a visibility setting, determining whether the group name is shown in the community to all users (with the option of requesting to join OF if it is simply hidden and invite only.
ALL spaces should include the option to allow only moderators to create posts (while allowing any member to comment, unless post author has disabled commenting on that post)
